Family Residence Permit in Türkiye: Eligibility & Steps
Spouses, children and sponsors in Türkiye
Short answer
Spouses and children of Turkish citizens, and of foreigners holding a residence or work permit, can apply for a family residence permit from the Presidency of Migration Management, subject to the sponsor's status and documents.
Families who move together need a legal basis for each member. A family residence permit (aile ikameti) lets the spouse and children of a sponsor in Türkiye live in the country without each needing their own work or study basis.
Who can apply for a family residence permit?
The spouse and minor children of a Turkish citizen, and of a foreigner who holds a valid residence permit or work permit, may apply. The relationship must be documented, and the sponsor's own status must be valid. The Presidency of Migration Management (Göç İdaresi) reviews each case. Eligibility depends on the sponsor's permit type, so we confirm it first.
Which relatives are covered?
- A spouse, with a recognised marriage certificate.
- Minor children of the sponsor or of the spouse, with birth certificates.
- Relatives outside this scope, such as parents, are usually handled through a short-term residence permit instead.
What must the sponsor show?
The sponsor must hold valid status in Türkiye, have a registered address and show enough income or means to support the family. Insurance is generally required for family members as well. The exact thresholds can change, so we confirm the current rules in writing.
How do I apply?
Applications are filed online through the e-Ikamet system, followed by an appointment at the provincial migration office, where documents are checked and biometrics are taken for each person. Foreign documents normally need a sworn translation and, where required, legalisation or apostille.
How long does the permit last and can it be renewed?
Family permits are generally issued for a limited period that follows the sponsor's own status, and they can be renewed while the relationship and the sponsor's status remain valid. We do not promise processing times, because they depend on the office.
What does it cost?
Costs include the government fee and card charge for each person, which change, plus translations, notary or apostille costs, and health insurance. We give the current official figures in writing at consultation.
How does DXB.IST help?
We start with a free consultation to confirm who is eligible and under which basis, then prepare the document checklist, translations and legalisation guidance, build each person's e-Ikamet file, book the migration office appointments and follow them until the cards arrive. After approval our travel desk can help with schooling, housing, banking, airport transfers and renewals. We work with licensed lawyers and approved translation centres; we are not a government body and cannot guarantee approval.
