Burj Khalifa opened in January 2010 and has held the title of the world's tallest building ever since: 828 metres, 163 floors, and a spire visible from almost anywhere in the city. It anchors Downtown Dubai, with Dubai Mall at its feet and the Dubai Fountain on the lake beside it.
Which observation deck?
There are two ticketed experiences. At the Top (levels 124 and 125, 452 metres) is the classic choice: outdoor terrace, big windows, good value. At the Top SKY (level 148, 555 metres) adds a lounge, refreshments, a smaller crowd and a private lift — worth it for a special occasion. Both are reached from the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall.
The 45 minutes around sunset are the most expensive and sell out days ahead; the same view an hour later, with the city lit and the fountain running below, costs less. Morning slots have the clearest air. Book online: walk-up tickets carry a surcharge and sunset is rarely available at the door.
Getting there
Take the Red Line to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station and follow the air-conditioned Metro Link walkway (about 15 minutes) into the mall. Taxis drop at the Dubai Mall entrances; the tower's own drop-off is reserved for the Armani Hotel. Allow 20 minutes to reach the ticket desks from any mall entrance.
Frequently asked questions
At the Top (124/125) is cheaper than SKY (148), and both charge a premium around sunset. Expect roughly the price of a good dinner per adult for the standard deck and about double for SKY; children under 4 enter free.
