Dubai in 4 Days: A First-Timer's Itinerary from Istanbul (With Real Timings)
Day-by-day Dubai itinerary for visitors from Türkiye: Burj Khalifa at sunset, Old Dubai souks, desert safari, Marina yacht, Abu Dhabi — with timings, metro tips, costs and what to skip.
Dubai is a city of distances — Downtown to the Marina is 25 km, the desert is 45 minutes east — and of timing: sunset tickets sell out, the fountain plays every 30 minutes, the desert is only pleasant after 16:00. The plan below is what we run for guests arriving on the Turkish Airlines morning flight; swap days freely, but keep each day's geography together.
Day 1 — Downtown: the vertical city
Land at DXB around 15:00 local, private transfer to Downtown (20 minutes), check in and shower. At 17:15 meet your guide at Dubai Mall for the Burj Khalifa sunset slot (Levels 124 and 125) — the single best introduction to the city. At 19:15 board an abra on Burj Lake for the fountain show, then walk through Souk Al Bahar for dinner overlooking the fountain. Early night: tomorrow starts at 9.
Day 2 — Old Dubai in the morning, desert in the afternoon
- 09:00 Al Fahidi historical quarter — wind towers, the Coffee Museum, karak tea.
- 10:45 Cross the Creek by abra (AED 1) to Deira.
- 11:00 Spice Souk and Gold Souk with a local guide — learn to bargain before you buy.
- 12:15 Tastings lunch on the food walk (Emirati, Iranian, Indian).
- 13:30 Back to the hotel for a rest and pool — the heat peak is 13:00–16:00.
- 15:00 Pickup for the Premium Desert Safari: dune bashing, sunset, camp, BBQ dinner. Back by 21:30.
Day 3 — The coast: Marina, Palm and the sea
Morning at the beach — JBR public beach or your hotel's. Late morning, ride the Palm Monorail or take a taxi to Atlantis for the Aquaventure waterpark if you have children (allow 4 hours), or The View at The Palm for the 52nd-floor panorama. At 16:30 board the private yacht at Dubai Marina for the sunset cruise around the Palm to Burj Al Arab, swim stop included. Dinner at Marina Walk or Bluewaters under Ain Dubai.
Day 4 — Choose your ending
- Culture: Abu Dhabi day trip — Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Louvre Abu Dhabi (9 hours).
- Families: Global Village and Miracle Garden (October–April) or IMG Worlds / Dubai Parks (year-round).
- Shoppers: Dubai Mall in the morning (the Aquarium, the Dino, the Fountain from inside), Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai in the afternoon, Souk Madinat Jumeirah at sunset.
- Relax: a beach club day on the Palm and a hammam at your hotel spa.
Getting around
- Metro: the Red Line links the airport, Downtown (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station), Mall of the Emirates and the Marina. Buy a Nol card; a day pass is AED 22.
- Taxis are safe and metered (Careem and Uber also work); Downtown to Marina costs AED 60–80.
- Old Dubai is best on foot and by abra; the Creek side is walkable and shaded in the morning.
- Friday mornings are quiet everywhere; Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest.
What to skip
Dubai Frame is fine but not worth a half day; the Museum of the Future needs pre-booking weeks ahead and is more architecture than museum; and mass-market 'shared' desert safaris with 40 people per camp are the most common disappointment we hear about — pay a little more for a private 4x4 and a real camp.
