Jumeirah Beach & JBR
Dubai's public beaches: the JBR strip by the Marina with its promenade and cafés, and the Jumeirah coast to the north-east — Kite Beach, Sunset Beach and La Mer — all free, clean and lifeguarded.
Dubai has around 20 km of public sandy beach along the Gulf, and the good news is that the best of it is free. The two areas visitors use most are JBR — Jumeirah Beach Residence, the 1.7-km strip in front of the Marina towers — and the Jumeirah coast between Burj Al Arab and the Creek.
The main beaches
- The Beach at JBR: widest choice of cafés, sunbeds for hire, an open-air cinema and Ain Dubai on Bluewaters in view. Busiest; reached by Dubai Tram (JBR 1/2).
- Kite Beach: sport-oriented — kitesurfing, volleyball, a running track, food trucks — with Burj Al Arab in the background.
- Sunset Beach: the classic Burj Al Arab photo and the calmest water; quieter than Kite Beach next door.
- La Mer: a low-rise beach development with street art, shops and Laguna Waterpark, popular with families.
- Jumeirah Public Beach, next to the Burj Al Arab bridge: small, free, and right by the icon.
Rules and seasons
Swimwear is fine on the sand and promenade; cover up when you leave the beach area. Nudity and topless sunbathing are illegal. Lifeguards operate from roughly 08:00 to sunset with a flag system; night swimming is banned except at designated lit beaches. Sea temperature runs from about 21°C in January to 33°C in August — October to May is beach season for most visitors.
