Dubai with Kids: Where to Stay, What to Book and How to Beat the Heat

A practical family guide to Dubai: the best neighbourhoods for children, waterparks and aquariums, indoor rescue plans for hot days, stroller and taxi rules, halal dining and a four-day plan that works.

Few cities make family travel this easy: everything is clean, safe, air-conditioned and staffed by people used to children. What catches families out is the geography — Downtown to the Palm is 30 minutes — and the heat, which turns any unplanned afternoon into a taxi ride back to the hotel. Plan around both and Dubai is close to perfect.

Where to stay with children

  • Palm Jumeirah / JBR: beach in the morning, pool in the afternoon, no transfers needed. Best for children under 8.
  • Downtown: walkable to Dubai Mall, the aquarium and the fountain; good for older children and short trips.
  • Deira: cheapest, best food, but further from beaches and parks.
  • Ask us for connecting rooms or a one-bedroom apartment — often cheaper than two doubles and far easier with a toddler.

Beating the heat

From May to September plan outdoors before 10:00 and after 17:00, and keep 12:00–16:00 for the hotel pool, malls or an indoor attraction. Even in winter, midday sun on the beach is strong — hats and high-factor sunscreen are not optional. Every mall and hotel has baby-change facilities and free chilled water is easy to find.

Practicalities parents ask about

  • Taxis have no child seats; book a private transfer with seats for the airport run and long trips.
  • The metro is stroller-friendly, has a women-and-children carriage and costs a fraction of taxis.
  • Pharmacies are everywhere, open late, and staffed by English-speaking pharmacists.
  • Restaurants are almost all halal; high chairs and children's menus are standard.
  • Children under 5 travel free on public transport and enter many attractions at reduced rates.

A four-day plan that works

  1. Day 1: arrive, hotel pool, evening at the Dubai Fountain and Souk Al Bahar.
  2. Day 2: Aquaventure or Wild Wadi all day; early dinner at JBR.
  3. Day 3: morning Dubai Aquarium and Dubai Mall, afternoon rest, evening desert safari with a gentle drive.
  4. Day 4: Global Village or Miracle Garden in season; otherwise Green Planet and Ski Dubai.
